DOST-PCIEERD invests Php 136M to boost technology transfer in 25 HEIs through the IMPACT NXT Program

Twenty-five Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country are set to strengthen the utilization and commercialization of university-generated technologies with the support of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) through the IP Management for Academic and Research Institutions Commercializing Technologies (IMPACT) NXT Program.

With a total investment of Php 136 million, the program aims to accelerate the translation of research outputs into real-world innovations, products, services, and enterprises that can benefit industries and communities. Over the next 1.5 years, participating HEIs will enhance their technology transfer and intellectual property (IP) management capacities, enabling them to maximize the value and impact of their research and development (R&D) investments.

The program is designed to increase the utilization and commercialization of research by providing comprehensive support to universities and research institutions. Through the program, HEIs will be assisted in establishing and strengthening their technology protection and transfer policies and processes, ensuring that innovations developed within their institutions are properly managed and prepared for commercialization.

Participating institutions will also benefit from capability-building initiatives for technology transfer officers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate intellectual property protection, technology valuation, marketing, licensing, and commercialization. In addition, the program supports the assessment of research outputs to identify technologies with strong commercialization potential.

A key component of the program is facilitating the disclosure and protection of intellectual properties, helping researchers safeguard their innovations through appropriate IP mechanisms. The program likewise promotes technologies developed by HEIs and supports their licensing and commercialization, creating pathways for research breakthroughs to reach industry partners, investors, and end-users.

By strengthening technology transfer ecosystems within universities, DOST-PCIEERD continues to advance its mission of transforming publicly funded research into innovations that drive economic growth, industry competitiveness, and national development. Through IMPACT NXT, the Council empowers HEIs to become active contributors to the country's innovation ecosystem, ensuring that research outcomes move beyond laboratories and into the hands of those who can create meaningful impact.
