Journalists from social and humanities sciences play a decisive role in decentralizing Western perspectives, spreading diverse cultural and intellectual views, and contributing to a more inclusive global discourse, noted Reysa Alenzuela (Central Philippine University (Iloilo City, Philippines) in her report.
This study examines the journal of the Eastern Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, which is dedicated to the studies of Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East. Through thematic analysis, this study conducted a descriptive analysis of the topics, geographical coverage, and author affiliations. The analysis showed a consistent multidisciplinary profile. The thematic representation indicates a broader representation that reflects significant thematic diversity. The authorship data indicate that, although mostly European scientists, the journal has an international reach and opportunities for broader global inclusivity. The citation characteristics emphasize that the most influential articles are dedicated to culturally and socially-religious significant topics, while works with fewer citations represent significant but minor contributions in specialized fields. This study emphasizes the role of library and information sciences (LIS) in decentralizing Western scientific dominance, supporting diverse knowledge systems, and improving the accessibility of underrepresented regional studies.
